Motorcyclist killed in Route 22 crash in Somerset County

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — A South River man was killed Saturday night in a crash involving a motorcycle and a sedan on Route 22 East in Bridgewater Township, authorities said.

Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Acting Chief of County Detectives Meredith McKay and Bridgewater Township Police Chief John B. Mitzak said the crash occurred at about 8:31 p.m. June 27 in the area of Bridge Street.

According to the preliminary investigation, officers responding to the scene found a Nissan sedan and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle involved in the collision. Investigators determined the crash occurred when the driver of the Nissan entered the motorcycle’s lane of travel.

The motorcyclist, a South River man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released.

The driver and passenger of the Nissan were not injured, authorities said.

Members of the Somerset County Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Bridgewater Police Department Traffic Safety Unit responded to investigate. The investigation remains ongoing pending the reconstruction team’s findings.
