Mount Olive Township announces residential energy aggregation program to help lower utility costs
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Mount Olive Township has announced it will participate in the Garden State Community Energy Cooperative (GSCEC), a state-approved energy aggregation program designed to help residents save money on their electricity bills.
Following a recent energy auction conducted by GSCEC, Direct Energy Services, LLC was selected as the township’s new energy supplier. Eligible residents can expect to see an estimated 7% savings on the supply portion of their monthly electric bills compared to the current Basic Generation Service rate offered by JCP&L.
Under the program, all eligible residents will be automatically enrolled, but participation is voluntary, and residents will have the option to opt out if they choose not to take part.
A direct mail notification with full program details, frequently asked questions, and opt-out instructions will be sent to all eligible households in December 2025. Public information sessions will also be held in January 2026 to explain the program and answer questions.
The new energy supply rates are expected to take effect after the March 2026 meter reads, with residents seeing the changes reflected on their April 2026 electric bills. No immediate action is required from residents.
“This is a great program that the Governing Body initiated to help reduce the burden of rising energy costs,” said Mayor Joe Nicastro. “We’re proud to offer a responsible and cost-effective energy solution that directly benefits our residents.”
Additional details will be shared as the program rollout continues.
