Mountain Creek marks 60th anniversary with earliest season opening

VERNON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon Township is set to open for the 2025-26 winter season today, marking its earliest start yet, the resort announced.

The early opening follows last season’s $5 million upgrade to Mountain Creek’s fully automated snowmaking system. A stretch of cold early-season temperatures allowed crews to produce snow quickly, enabling the New York metro area’s largest ski destination to begin its season earlier than ever. The opening also coincides with the resort’s 60th anniversary.

For this winter, Mountain Creek added two new Prinoth snow cats and 12 additional fan guns on South Peak. Resort officials said the enhancements, along with one of the nation’s most advanced automated snowmaking systems, will improve efficiency and help deliver consistent snow conditions throughout the season.

“We’re excited to officially open for the 25/26 winter season, marking our second consecutive year of opening early,” General Manager Evan Kovach said in a statement. “This achievement reflects our commitment to delivering an exceptional guest experience. With expanded snowmaking on South Peak, two new grooming machines and our industry-leading automated system, we’re set up for a standout December and holiday season. We’ll continue to maximize every favorable weather window to add more terrain and deliver the best possible conditions for our guests.”

Mountain Creek is scheduled to open with top-to-bottom skiing and riding at Vernon Peak, served by the Cabriolet Gondola. Lifts will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. All mountain services—including rentals, lessons, retail and dining—will be available. Advance online reservations are required.

To celebrate its anniversary, the resort is offering a limited number of $60 opening-weekend lift tickets. Guests may also purchase a Triple Play Card, valid for three anytime lift tickets for $139.99, or a 2025-26 season pass starting at $359.99. Full-day and twilight access passes will also be available.
