NJ Bankers event supports homeless veterans with financial literacy class

GLEN GARDNER BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Director Jeff Kuhl and Deputy Director Susan Soloway, along with NJ Assembly Minority Leader John DiMaio and State Assemblyman Erik Peterson, attended a financial literacy class and dinner event last month, focused on assisting homeless veterans. The event was part of a series of classes held for various veteran groups across the state.

The event was collectively hosted by the NJ Bankers Association (NJBankers), along with Northfield Bank, and the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and took place at the VFW Post 5119, in Glen Gardner Borough.

“Supporting our veterans is a top priority, and events like this provide not only immediate relief but also long-term resources to help our veterans rebuild their lives. I want to thank NJ Banker Association, Northfield Bank, and all the volunteers who made this event possible,” Kuhl said.

The event welcomed approximately 50 residents from Veteran’s Haven North, a transitional facility dedicated to supporting homeless veterans, and Northfield Bank led the session, which covered essential financial topics, including setting up accounts, budgeting, and recognizing and avoiding fraud and banking scams. Following the class, the New Jersey VFW hosted a barbecue dinner for all attendees.

“It was heartening to see the community come together to assist our veterans that are facing adversity. The financial literacy program is a vital tool in helping them regain control over their finances and on a path to a more secure future,” Soloway said.

The NJ Bankers Association is dedicated to fostering economic development and community support through initiatives like these, ensuring that all residents, especially those who have served our country, have access to the resources they need.
