NJ-based Ambriola recalls grated cheeses over possible Listeria contamination
WEST CALDWELL, N.J. — A New Jersey–based cheese importer is recalling several grated cheese products after routine testing detected Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The recalled products were processed at Ambriola’s West Caldwell facility and distributed nationwide between Nov. 3 and Nov. 20, 2025. No illnesses have been reported, but the company is urging customers not to consume the affected cheeses.
Listeria infections can be especially dangerous for young children, older adults and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may experience fever, headache, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea. The infection can also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
“We take food safety very seriously and immediately alerted stores and distributors to remove the affected products from shelves,” said Phil Marfuggi, Ambriola’s chief executive officer. “We are working closely with the FDA and continuing to test our products and facilities to fully understand the situation.”
