One person killed, another critically injured after two helicopters crash in South Jersey

HAMMONTON, N.J. (Atlantic County) — One person was killed and another was critically injured Sunday after two helicopters crashed in Hammonton, authorities said.

Hammonton police said officers were called at about 11:25 a.m. to reports of an aviation crash involving two helicopters in the 100 block of Basin Road. Both aircraft crash-landed, and one helicopter was engulfed in flames.

Police, fire and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, authorities said.

One fatality was confirmed at the scene, and another person was transported by EMS to a hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. The identities of the victims were not immediately released.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash, police said.
