Pleasant Hill Road in Mount Olive to close for two bridge replacements beginning Aug. 31
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Pleasant Hill Road in the Flanders section of Mount Olive Township will close to through traffic beginning Monday, Aug. 31, as Morris County begins a project to replace two bridges over Drakes Brook.
The closure will begin after the morning rush hour and is expected to remain in place for approximately four months, weather permitting.
Motorists will be directed to a signed detour using Reger Road and Ironia Road. Truck traffic will follow a separate detour using Furnace Road and Route 206.
The two bridges are located next to each other near Flanders Valley Golf Course and have deteriorated over time, according to officials.
The bridge closest to the north side of Pleasant Hill Road, near Ironia Road, was built in 1900 and has severe rusting and section loss in its steel beams. The second bridge, built in 1940, also has rusting steel beams and voids in its foundations.
The bridge dating to 1900 will be replaced with a prestressed concrete beam bridge featuring a concrete deck, stone-faced parapets and wingwalls.
The bridge dating to 1940 will be replaced with a three-sided precast concrete frame with precast wingwalls and bridge railings, topped with an asphalt overlay.
Motorists should expect delays during construction, use caution in the work area and consider alternate routes.
The $2.6 million project is being completed by Konkus Corporation of Hillsborough under contract with Morris County.
