Police arrest man in gift card scam attempt at Morris County CVS

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Newark man was arrested Friday after Denville police said he attempted to swap out legitimate gift cards with fraudulent ones at a CVS on East Main Street.

Police responded on June 13 to a report of suspicious activity at the CVS at 276 East Main St., where an individual was allegedly trying to replace gift cards with altered or counterfeit versions. When officers arrived, the suspect had already left the store but was located nearby.

The man, identified as Rinalds Ivans, 25, was taken into custody without incident. A search of the area led officers to recover several fraudulent gift cards connected to the incident, police said.

Ivans was charged with possession of forgery devices, tampering with evidence, and criminal attempt — theft by deception. He was processed and released, pending a mandatory court appearance.
