Police investigating reported shooting as ‘swatting’ incident in Hunterdon County

TEWKSBURY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A shooting reported this morning in Hunterdon County is now being investigated as a swatting incident, according to Tewksbury Township police.

On Nov. 6, at around 9:44 a.m., police received a phone call from a person reporting that two people were shot at a residence in the 200 block of County Route 517 in Tewksbury Township, police said.

Due to the close proximity of the Tewksbury Township Schools, both schools were placed on lockdown, police said.

Tewksbury police officers as well as mutual aid officers from neighboring municipalities responded to the residence and determined the call to be false. The school lockdown was then lifted, police said.

“It is believed that the call was a “swatting” incident. A “swatting” incident is a false call to police reporting a serious incident to elicit a significant response from police and other emergency services,” police said.

“The Tewksbury Township Police take these “swatting” incidents seriously and this incident remains under investigation.” police said.
