MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man found dead in the Passaic River in Montville Township, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.
On Sunday, March 23, at approximately 4:30 p.m., law enforcement was dispatched to the Passaic River near Route 46 in Montville Township after two fishermen reported seeing a body, Carroll said.
While searching the area, Montville Police officers located the body of a man. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office CSI responded to the scene, and the body was recovered from the water. It was then turned over to the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office (MCMEO). The deceased did not have any identification on him, Carroll said.
The MCMEO has determined that the man is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs 166 pounds, appears to be either Black or mixed race, and is between 20 and 35 years of age. He has two tattoos: the first across his chest, which reads “Toolie,” and the second on his lower left arm, which reads, “For those I love I will sacrifice.”
The cause and manner of death are still under investigation by the MCMEO, Carroll said.
While the investigation is ongoing, the cause of death is not currently suspected to be criminal. Scans of the body were negative for projectiles or foreign objects, Carroll said.
This is a joint investigation being conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Montville Police Department.
