Powerball jackpot rises to $815M, seventh-largest in game’s history
The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $815 million after no ticket matched all six numbers in Monday night’s drawing, lottery officials said.
The winning numbers were white balls 16, 19, 34, 37, 64 and red Powerball 22. The Power Play multiplier was 3.
While no one hit the jackpot, two tickets sold in Georgia and Texas matched all five white balls to win $1 million each. Another 26 tickets won $50,000 prizes, and five tickets won $150,000 prizes.
In the separate Double Play drawing, a ticket in Maryland won $500,000 after matching all five black balls. Double Play is a $1 add-on feature that lets players use their Powerball numbers in a second drawing with prizes up to $10 million.
The next drawing will be held Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. ET. If won, the jackpot would rank as the seventh-largest in Powerball history. A winner would have the option of an annuitized prize of $815 million, paid out over 29 years with annual increases of 5 percent, or a lump sum estimated at $367.9 million. Both amounts are before taxes.
The jackpot has been rolling since May 31, when it was last won in California.
Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Since its launch in 1992, the game has generated more than $36 billion for programs supported by U.S. lotteries.
The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9, while the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
