Rep. Tom Kean Jr. marks two years since Hamas attack, calls for release of hostages
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-07) issued a statement Tuesday marking the two-year anniversary of Hamas’ unprovoked terrorist attack on Israel, honoring the victims and calling for the immediate release of all hostages still held by Hamas.
“Two years ago today, on October 7th, 2023, Hamas launched a barbaric and unprovoked terrorist attack on Israel,” Kean said. “On that day, the world witnessed unimaginable horror — innocent men, women, and children were brutally murdered, and hundreds of others taken hostage including American citizens. We remember every life lost, and we continue to pray for the families suffering and for those who are still waiting for their loved ones to return home.”
Kean reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering support for Israel’s right to defend itself and praised the resilience of those impacted by the ongoing conflict.
“Since that terrible day, the United States has stood firmly with Israel in this fight to defend itself against Hamas and the evils of terrorism,” Kean said. “I have met with families of hostages, Americans who have joined the IDF, and those who have lost loved ones. Their strength and perseverance are a powerful reminder of the human cost of this conflict, and the need to bring every hostage home now.”
The congressman also expressed support for recent diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace.
“I am encouraged by President Trump’s decisive steps to bring an end to the war that Hamas started and restore peace and stability in the Middle East,” Kean said. “Hamas must accept this peace deal and immediately release all remaining hostages held in Gaza.”
Kean concluded his remarks by urging continued solidarity against antisemitism and in support of Israel.
“Today and every day, we must stand united against antisemitism — in all its forms — and we must stand with our Jewish community both here in New Jersey and around the world,” he said. “The United States will always stand with Israel. We will stand for its right to protect its people. And we will always stand against terror.”
