Rep. Tom Kean Jr. praises Israel-Hamas peace agreement as ‘defining moment’ for U.S. and international community

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-07) on Thursday praised the recently announced Israel-Hamas peace agreement, calling it a “defining moment” for Israel, the United States, and the global community.

“This is a defining moment for Israel, the United States, and the international community. Through the bold leadership of President Trump and the partnership between the United States and our ally Israel, a diplomatic breakthrough has been achieved that marks the beginning of the end of the war Hamas launched on October 7th,” Kean said in a statement. “This agreement is a decisive step toward freeing the hostages, dismantling Hamas’ terrorist infrastructure, and paving the way for a more secure and peaceful future in Gaza and across the Middle East. I applaud President Trump and countless members of his team for their tireless efforts in forging this historic peace agreement in close coordination with Israel.”

Kean condemned Hamas for sparking the war with what he described as “one of the most barbaric and unprovoked attacks in modern history.”

“Hamas ignited this war with one of the most barbaric and unprovoked attacks in modern history. For nearly two years, the Iranian-backed terror organization has used Palestinian civilians as shields and turned Gaza into a battlefield in its ruthless campaign to destroy the Jewish state,” he said. “The suffering inflicted by Hamas has been catastrophic for Israelis and Palestinians alike. I join so many around the world in rejoicing the long-awaited return of all remaining hostages, while we continue to mourn the innocent lives lost and stand with the families who have endured unimaginable grief. My heart is with those who have waited and prayed for this day, with the brave defenders of Israel, and with all who seek peace and justice.”

Kean added that global leaders must remain alert to ensure the peace deal’s success and prevent further violence.

“As we look forward, the international community must remain vigilant to ensure the full implementation of this agreement and to guarantee that Hamas never again has the power to wage war or hold civilians hostage,” Kean said. “The horrors of October 7th must never be repeated.”
