TRENTON, N.J. — RetireReady NJ, the state’s retirement savings program for private-sector employees, has reached $25 million in retirement savings for 30,000 participants since launching two years ago, state officials announced Wednesday.
The state-administered program, which began in June 2024, requires New Jersey businesses with 25 or more employees that have been operating for at least two years and do not offer a qualified retirement plan to register with RetireReady NJ. Employees may save for retirement through payroll deductions into a Roth or Traditional Individual Retirement Account.
“This milestone represents a crucial step forward towards financial security in retirement for many New Jerseyans,” State Treasurer Aaron Binder said. “I’d like to thank the staff of RetireReady NJ for their diligent efforts to ensure saving for retirement is convenient and accessible for private sector employees across the Garden State, along with the many public and private sector partners who have helped spread the word about this new and important program.”
The RetireReady NJ program was established under a 2019 state law sponsored by Assembly members Roy Frieman, Raj Mukherji and Carol A. Murphy, along with Sens. Joseph A. Lagana, Troy Singleton and Shirley K. Turner.
In January 2026, the program expanded to include employers with 10 or more employees, requiring them to facilitate payroll deductions for eligible workers. State officials said outreach to employers and employees regarding the expansion is expected to begin in early September.
“RetireReady NJ is achieving its mission of creating accessibility for underserved communities to prepare for a dignified retirement here in New Jersey,” said Todd Hassler, executive director of RetireReady NJ. “On this two-year anniversary of RetireReady NJ, more than 30,000 citizens have saved through the program and have made significant steps towards realizing their retirement goals.”
