SEA LIFE New Jersey plans underwater “Noon Year’s Eve” ball drop at American Dream
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Bergen County) — SEA LIFE New Jersey is preparing to ring in the new year with an underwater twist, dropping a frozen “ice ball” filled with fish food into its main ocean exhibit as part of a special Noon Year’s Eve celebration.
The aquarium recently conducted a test run of the event by lowering the ice ball into its 186,000-gallon, New York City-themed ocean exhibit, where sharks, stingrays and other sea creatures swam around the frozen treat.
The rehearsal was held ahead of the official Noon Year’s Eve Ball Drop scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at noon, giving families a daytime alternative to traditional late-night celebrations.
The event will take place at SEA LIFE New Jersey inside the American Dream complex. Guests will be able to watch as the frozen fish food ball descends into the large ocean tank, offering a unique, kid-friendly version of the iconic New Year’s Eve tradition.
In addition to the underwater ball drop, aquarium staff will distribute party favors such as New Year’s hats, tiaras, leis and beaded necklaces to guests before the event, while supplies last.
SEA LIFE New Jersey officials said the celebration is designed to provide a festive and educational experience, allowing visitors to welcome the new year alongside marine life in a family-friendly setting.
