Second small earthquake reported in New Jersey after weekend tremor near Hasbrouck Heights

HILLSDALE, N.J. (Bergen County) — A second small earthquake was recorded in northern New Jersey on Tuesday, just days after a minor tremor shook areas near Hasbrouck Heights over the weekend, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The latest earthquake, a magnitude 2.7, struck at 12:11 p.m. EDT approximately 2 kilometers southwest of Hillsdale, the USGS reported. The quake occurred at a depth of 12.4 kilometers (7.7 miles) and no damage or injuries were immediately reported.

The event follows a magnitude 3.0 earthquake that occurred late Saturday night near Hasbrouck Heights, about 15 miles southeast of Hillsdale. That quake struck at 10:18 p.m. on Aug. 2 and was recorded at a depth of about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
