Somerset County man accused of stealing construction vehicle, crashing into 2 vehicles

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – A Somerset County man is accused of stealing a construction vehicle and crashing into two vehicles, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

On June 4, at around 2:15 p.m., Amr Khodeer, 24, of Somerville was seen in the area of Union Street in Somerville and a short time later, a construction vehicle was taken from Union Street, McDonald said.

The vehicle left the area at a high rate of speed and drove in a reckless manner, striking two motor vehicles, and a structure in Bridgewater Township before becoming disabled within the area of the Promenade Boulevard, McDonald said.

Khodeer then fled on foot and was apprehended by Bridgewater Township police officers, McDonald said.

The driver of one of the vehicles hit by Khodeer was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries suffered as a result of the motor vehicle accident. Khodeer was also transported to a local hospital for treatment, McDonald said.

Khodeer was charged with third-degree theft of a motor vehicle and several motor vehicle summonses. Upon release from the hospital, he will be lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing, McDonald said.

The investigation which remains on-going, McDonald said.
