Sussex County Community College launches free teletherapy partnership for students
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Sussex County Community College has launched a new mental health program giving students free access to teletherapy and crisis support through a partnership with Uwill, a digital mental health and wellness platform.
The college said the initiative comes as demand for mental health services among students continues to rise, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our students’ mental health is of the utmost importance,” said Jamie Borger, SCCC’s director of student success. “With the new partnership with Uwill, we are providing a convenient way for our students, who may be suffering from any type of mental health stress, to speak with a professional counselor.”
Through Uwill, students can connect with licensed counselors via video, phone, chat or teletherapy sessions, which are confidential and available at no cost. No insurance is required. Students can select a counselor based on preferences such as language, availability, gender or area of expertise, and sessions can be scheduled during the day, at night or on weekends.
The service also includes a crisis hotline, available 24 hours a day at 833-646-1526.
College officials said they hope the new program will reduce stigma around seeking help by offering a welcoming and private platform for students to address mental health needs.
