Sussex County Community College to mark 25th anniversary of 9/11 with remembrance ceremony
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Sussex County Community College will hold a remembrance ceremony Friday, Sept. 11, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives.
The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. at the college’s 9/11 Memorial on Connor Green, located on the SCCC campus at One College Hill Road in Newton.
Members of the college and surrounding community are expected to attend, including local firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical services personnel, veterans, students, faculty, staff and area residents.
The ceremony will include the playing of the national anthem, welcoming remarks from the SCCC Board of Trustees and reflections from guest speakers.
A wreath-laying ceremony will honor those who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and aboard Flight 93, as well as the first responders who answered the call that day.
The ceremony will conclude with the playing of taps by Bugles Across America.
SCCC is inviting members of the community to attend the ceremony and gather in remembrance and unity on the milestone anniversary.
