Sussex County girl recovering after suffering traumatic head injury from foul ball at baseball game
HOPATCONG BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Hopatcong girl is recovering after suffering a traumatic head injury when she was struck by a foul ball during a Fourth of July baseball game, according to a GoFundMe campaign organized by family members.
The fundraiser, organized by The Velez-Nicholson Sisters, said Cece was attending what was expected to be “a day of family fun” at a baseball game followed by fireworks on July 4 when a foul ball entered the stands and struck her in the head.
According to the campaign, Cece underwent emergency brain surgery and is now recovering following the procedure.
“Cece underwent emergency brain surgery and is now four days post-surgery. She is healing remarkably well, but there is still a long road ahead,” the fundraiser states. “In the weeks, months, and year to come, she will require close monitoring and continued care as she works toward recovery.”
The fundraiser says Cece’s parents, Jen and Eric, are focused on supporting their daughter through her recovery while facing anticipated medical expenses, rehabilitation and ongoing care.
Organizers said the campaign was created to help ease the family’s financial burden and allow them to focus on Cece’s recovery.
“So many of you have asked how you can help, and we are truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support for Cece and her family,” the campaign states.
“We are deeply grateful for every prayer, message, and act of kindness.”
The family said prayers remain their top request but welcomed donations from those able to contribute.
“Please know that your prayers are always appreciated first and foremost, but if you are able to help support our sweet little Cece and her family, it would mean more than words can express,” the organizers wrote. “Your generosity and compassion will make a world of difference, and we are sincerely grateful for any support you can give.”
Those wishing to support Cece’s recovery can donate through the GoFundMe campaign. No additional information about the incident, including the location of the baseball game, was provided in the fundraiser.
