Sussex County man accused of DUI, child endangerment after traffic stop
FRANKLIN BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Franklin man was arrested May 30 and is facing charges of driving under the influence and child endangerment in a case released by police on July 17, after authorities say he was found operating a vehicle while allegedly under the influence of narcotics with a child in the back seat.
Franklin police were alerted by the Hamburg Police Department to be on the lookout for a vehicle connected to a welfare check. According to police, the driver had reportedly left a nearby medical facility following a dispute with staff, who suspected he was under the influence while acting as the sole caretaker of his child.
Shortly after the alert was issued, Franklin officers located the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Main Street. The driver, identified as James Mycek, 50, was allegedly under the influence of suspected methamphetamine at the time of the stop, authorities said. His minor child was confirmed to be the only passenger in the vehicle.
Mycek was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and use or being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, which is a disorderly persons offense. He was also issued multiple motor vehicle summonses.
Mycek was released on a criminal complaint summons pending a court appearance in Sussex County Superior Court under the guidelines of the New Jersey Bail Reform Act.
The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, and officers from both Franklin and Hamburg police departments assisted in the investigation.
