Sussex County man sentenced for unlawful possession of BB gun, possession of heroin with intent to distribute

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man has been sentenced for unlawful possession of BB gun and possession of heroin with intent to distribute, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray.

Zachary Minter, 24, of Montague Township was sentenced on Dec. 6 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Murray said.

Minter was sentenced to three years of probation conditioned upon serving 373 days in the county jail with a credit for 373 days jail already served. He must engage in substance abuse treatment, submit a DNA sample and pay $1,330 in mandatory fees and penalties, Murray said.

Minter previously pled guilty to third-degree possession of heroin with the intent to distribute that heroin, and third-degree unlawful possession of a BB handgun. These charges arose from an investigation in August of 2023 by the New Jersey State Police Special Investigations Unit, Murray said.

Minter was represented by Matthew Young, Esq. and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General/Acting Assistant Prosecutor Jerome Neidhardt.
