Sussex County opens student pin design contest for 25th annual veterans parade

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — The Sussex County Board of County Commissioners, in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services Division of Senior Services and the Sussex County Veterans Committee, has announced the opening of its annual patriotic pin design contest in celebration of the 25th Annual Salute to Military Veterans Parade.

The event, held each November at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Frankford, honors the service and sacrifice of the county’s military veterans. This year’s parade is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025.

Each year, local students create designs for a commemorative pin distributed to all veterans in attendance. Sussex County students in grades 6 through 8, including homeschooled students, are encouraged to submit original, hand-drawn artwork that expresses their appreciation for veterans’ contributions.

Submissions must include the words “Sussex County” and the year “2025” and should be mailed by the firm deadline of June 20 to the Sussex County Division of Senior Services, One Spring Street, Newton, NJ 07860. All entries must be accompanied by the student’s name, address, phone number, school name, grade, and a school contact person.

Entries will be judged anonymously by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. One winning design will be chosen, and the student will be awarded a $200 prize and recognized at the parade.

For more information, contact the Sussex County Division of Senior Services at 973-579-0555, ext. 1226 or email seniorservices@sussex.nj.us.
