Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center are the Only Two Hospitals in New Jersey on the Best 50 List || Chilton Medical Center Again Among 250 Best
NEW JERSEY – Three Atlantic Health System medical centers on Tuesday were named among America’s Best Hospitals for 2025, according to new research released by Healthgrades, the leading resource U.S. consumers use when searching for a hospital or doctor.
Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center are once again named among America’s 50 Best Hospitals, and Chilton Medical Center is named among America’s 250 Best Hospitals.
All three medical centers, as well as Atlantic Health System’s Newton Medical Center, were also ranked highly among New Jersey hospitals in several key specialties in Healthgrades 2025 rankings including among the top spots in New Jersey.
“To consistently earn these rankings across three of our medical centers highlights our dedication to providing safe, high-quality care,” said Scott Leighty, Executive Vice President, Chief Health System Officer for Atlantic Health System. “Our team members, doctors, nurses and multi-disciplinary clinicians throughout our medical centers continue to be laser-focused on not only raising, but exceeding industry quality standards within Atlantic Health System.”
For the second consecutive year, Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center are the only two hospitals in New Jersey named among America’s 50 Best Hospitals in 2025.
This marks Chilton’s third consecutive year (2023-2025) among the 250 Best Hospitals, placing it in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance across the most common conditions and procedures.
Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center (located in Summit, NJ) have been included in the 50 Best Hospitals, for the tenth consecutive (2016-2025) and sixth (2020-2025) consecutive year respectively. This places Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center among the top 1% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance across the most common conditions and procedures.
To determine the top hospitals for 2025, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Healthgrades’ ratings are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes. The 2025 Healthgrades annual analysis revealed significant performance gaps between the nation’s highest- and lowest-achieving hospitals, making it increasingly important to seek care at a top-rated facility. From 2021-2023, if all hospitals, as a group, had performed similarly to America’s 250 Best Hospitals,176,081 lives could potentially have been saved.*
“With two of America’s 50 Best Hospitals, Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center are elevating the standard for quality care nationwide,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “Healthgrades commends Atlantic Health System for their ongoing leadership and commitment to providing the best possible care for all patients in New Jersey.”
In the State of New Jersey, Overlook ranked #1 for Stroke Care, Neurosciences, Pulmonary Care, Gastrointestinal Care and Gastrointestinal Surgery. Morristown Medical Center ranked #1 for Cardiac Care and Joint Replacement. Chilton ranked #3 for Critical Care and Newton Medical Center ranked #4 for Pulmonary Care.
