Two drivers injured in Route 202 crash in Hunterdon County

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Two drivers suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on Route 202 near Summer Road, according to the Readington Township Police Department.

Police said the crash occurred at approximately 6:16 p.m. Aug. 4. Officers, along with the Whitehouse Rescue Squad and the Three Bridges Fire Department, responded to the scene after receiving reports of a motor vehicle crash involving multiple injuries.

When officers arrived, they found a Volvo XC90 and a Mercedes-Benz C240 involved in the collision. Police said the Mercedes was actively on fire, but all occupants had exited both vehicles before emergency responders arrived.

Officers began extinguishing the fire until firefighters from the Three Bridges Fire Department arrived and put out the remaining flames.

According to police, both drivers sustained minor injuries. One driver was transported by the Whitehouse Rescue Squad to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Route 202 was temporarily closed while emergency crews extinguished the fire, investigated the crash and cleared the damaged vehicles and debris from the roadway.

The Raritan Township Police Department and Branchburg Township Police Department also assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Readington Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Ryan Donovan at 908-534-4031.
