Two men charged after police recover 33 allegedly stolen cases of energy drinks in Morris County
FLORHAM PARK BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — Two Union County men have been charged with receiving stolen property after police said they were found with dozens of stolen cases of energy drinks during a traffic stop in Florham Park.
According to police, a vehicle was stopped May 25 on Columbia Turnpike near the center of town for traffic and equipment violations.
During the stop, police observed 33 cases of energy drinks in plain view inside the vehicle. Authorities said the occupants were unable to provide a logical explanation for possessing the large quantity of merchandise, could not provide proof of purchase and gave conflicting accounts of how they obtained the drinks.
Police seized the 33 cases of energy drinks and issued motor vehicle summonses while continuing an investigation into a suspected theft.
Investigators later determined that an ACME supermarket in Randolph had reported the theft of 33 cases of energy drinks on the same date, police said.
As a result of the investigation, Deandre Camacho, 32, of Vauxhall, and Kyjuan Hutchins, 26, of Vauxhall, were each charged with third-degree receiving stolen property. Criminal warrants were issued for their arrests.
On June 10, police learned both men had been arrested by another law enforcement agency on unrelated charges. Detectives responded to the Morris County Correctional Facility, where the pair were processed on the Florham Park charges.
