UPDATE: I-80 eastbound left lane and shoulder closed for emergency drainage repairs in Rockaway Township

Collapsed sewer basin will be repaired overnight

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Emergency drainage repairs have shut down the two left lanes and shoulder on I-80 eastbound near Exit 37 in Rockaway Township, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, May 12, the lanes were closed near the on-ramp from Green Pond Road due to a collapsed sewer basin. Two lanes remain open. Officials confirmed the damage is not a sinkhole.

Repair crews are enroute and will be working overnight to fix the damaged drainage infrastructure. It remains unclear how long the repairs will take. Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down, move over, and expect delays.

The exact schedule for the work may change due to weather or other factors. Drivers are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic website, www.511nj.org, for construction updates and real-time travel information.
