UPDATE: Man fatally shot during reported break-in attempt in Phillipsburg

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — A man was fatally shot early Monday morning during a reported break-in attempt at a residence on the 100 block of Summit Avenue, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

At approximately 4:26 a.m. on June 2, the Warren County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that someone was trying to forcibly enter a home, authorities said.

Officers from the Phillipsburg Police Department responded and located Kevin Clervil, of East Orange, outside the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Clervil was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital Warren Campus, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The New Jersey State Police and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office are assisting with the investigation.

Authorities said the individuals involved in the incident were known to each other. No additional information was available.
