UPDATE: Man killed in I-80 crash in Morris County, state police say

ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Sussex County man was killed early Wednesday in a crash on Interstate 80 in Roxbury Township, according to New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded at 4:19 a.m. to a motor vehicle crash on I-80 west near milepost 31.7, State Police spokesman Trooper II Christopher Postorino said.

A preliminary investigation found that Shawn Burckure, 52, of Andover, was driving a Jeep SUV east on I-80 when he lost directional control of the vehicle. The Jeep ran off the roadway to the left, traveled through an emergency U-turn area and struck the end of a guardrail.

After the initial impact, the vehicle continued forward into the westbound lanes, where it was struck by a Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling west, police said.

Burckure sustained fatal injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information was available.
