HARDYSTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — The Sussex County YMCA will reopen Monday with normal hours after being forced to close because of significant roof damage sustained during Friday night’s storm, the organization announced.
The YMCA, located at 15 Wits End Road in Hardyston Township, said the damaged section of the metal roof has been removed and a building inspector has approved the facility to resume operations.
The pool area, however, will remain closed until further notice while roof repairs continue.
The YMCA initially announced Saturday morning that the facility would be closed until further notice out of an abundance of caution for the safety of members and staff. A roofing company was dispatched to the facility as officials assessed the extent of the damage.
The organization said some members experienced disruptions to classes and pool access because of the closure. Its leadership team is assessing the full scope of the disruption before making decisions regarding possible compensation and will provide additional information once that review is complete.
