Water restrictions now in effect in Mount Olive Township
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Mandatory water restrictions for consumers on township-owned water systems are now in effect in Mount Olive Township, following an order issued under Township Code, Article V, Section 318-32, “Restrictions on Water Use.”
The township is urging all residents to take steps to conserve water to ensure adequate supplies for public health and safety.
Under the order, lawn watering follows an odd-even schedule based on street address, with watering permitted only between 5–8 a.m. and 6–9 p.m. on assigned days. Addresses ending in odd numbers may water on odd-numbered days; those ending in even numbers may water on even-numbered days. No lawn watering is permitted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on any day.
Other restrictions include:
- Washing of structures, sidewalks, and driveways is prohibited.
- Flowerbeds, vegetable gardens, shrubs, and trees may be watered only with a hose equipped with a handheld shut-off nozzle or other low-volume method, and not between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
- Vehicles may be washed only with a bucket or a hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle.
- Planting ornamental vegetation, grass, and sod is discouraged; if watering new sod or seed is necessary, it may be done daily for the first 25 days, but the Water Department must be notified on the planting date.
Violators are subject to fines. Residents with questions or those wishing to report a violation can contact the Water Department at 973-584-7086.
