CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A 68-year-old woman from Warren Township was flown to a hospital after a single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Route 31 near Payne Road in CLinton Township, according to police.
The crash happened around 10:56 a.m. Aug. 25 as the woman was traveling south on Route 31 and approaching the intersection with Payne Road.
Police said the vehicle slowed for a red traffic signal but continued through the intersection, crossed the stop line and traveled onto the northbound side of Route 31.
The vehicle narrowly avoided another motorist before continuing across the travel lanes and onto the grass in front of 1136 Route 31 North in Annandale, according to police.
The vehicle then struck and damaged a walkway at The House That Rocks before continuing and eventually striking a tree, where it came to rest.
Police said the driver was conscious and breathing when officers arrived but appeared significantly disoriented and was unaware of what had occurred.
She was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and transported by the Clinton Township Rescue Squad before being airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerset for treatment.
No further information about the driver’s condition was available.
The crash remains under investigation. The South Branch Emergency Services and other emergency personnel assisted police at the scene.
