1 dead after crash on I-80 in Passaic County
WAYNE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Passaic County) – An Essex County man is dead following a crash on Interstate 80 in Wayne Township on Monday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Charles Marchan.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:51 a.m. on I-80 westbound at milepost 53.8, Marchan said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford Econoline van, driven by 41-year-old Namon Melvin of Orange, NJ, and a Honda passenger car were both traveling west on I-80 when the van rear-ended the Honda. The impact caused the Ford to veer off the road, down an embankment, and collide with a tree, Marchan said.
Melvin suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash, Marchan said.
The crash remains under investigation, Marchan said.
