Hanover Township police warn residents about suspicious QR codes left in mailboxes
HANOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Police are investigating a series of incidents involving suspicious QR codes placed in residents’ mailboxes alongside messages encouraging recipients to scan them with their smartphones.
Authorities are warning the public not to scan the codes, as they may contain potentially harmful malware.
“We urge residents to avoid interacting with these QR codes and to report any findings directly to us,” the Hanover Township Police Department said in a statement Monday.
Anyone who receives one of these messages is asked to contact the department at 973-428-2512 as the investigation continues.
