14th annual Sussex County Heritage Weekend will be held on Oct. 12 and Oct. 13

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – On Saturday, October 12, and Sunday, October 13, historical museums and heritage organizations will join forces with the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council for the much-anticipated annual Heritage Weekend. This event offers a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to delve into the diverse history and culture of Sussex County.

A variety of volunteer-run historical sites will be open to the public, including the Branchville Borough Historical Museum, Byram’s Roseville Schoolhouse Museum, Franklin’s Heritage Museum, and many more. Other participating sites feature Hardyston’s Old Monroe School House, Lafayette’s Ludlum-Mabee House, Montague’s Foster-Armstrong House, and Newton’s Hill Memorial Museum.

In addition to these locations, attendees can explore the Waterloo Village Historic Site, drive along the scenic Western Highlands Scenic Byway, and stroll through the White Deer Plaza and Boardwalk Historic District. Hikers can enjoy trails in local state parks, including High Point State Park and the New Jersey Veterans Memorial.

During Heritage Weekend, admission to historical society-run sites will be free, although donations are welcomed to support ongoing efforts. Some sites may offer special presentations or exhibits. Notably, Lusscroft Farm will provide limited tours of the Manor House for a fee to aid in its preservation.

There will be one day festivals on Spring St. in Newton and in Stillwater.
