Sussex County man killed after being struck by car in Florida

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – A Sussex County man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Florida on Wednesday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins.

The crash happened at 10:31 p.m. on Gandy Boulevard in Pinellas County, Gaskins said.

According to Gaskin, a Nissan Maxima was traveling eastbound on Gandy Boulevard and east of San Fernando Boulevard a 58-year-old Hopatcong Borough man attempted to walk across Gandy Boulevard and was struck by the Nissan.

The driver, a 23-year-old Seminole woman, stopped and got out of the vehicle to assist the pedestrian when she was struck by a Kia Optima, driven by a 23-year-old Tampa woman, traveling eastbound, Gaskins said.

The driver of the Kia was not injured and the driver of the Nissan suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Gaskins said.

The Hopatcong Borough resident, whose identity was not released, was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries suffered during the crash, Gaskins said.
