Boat catches on fire at Big Beach in Morris County

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) — A boat caught fire at Big Beach in Rockaway Township on Sunday evening.

As operations were concluding at the Jacobs Road forest fire around 6:00 p.m., firefighters noticed the boat ablaze at one of the docks while preparing to dismantle their fill site. They utilized their fire boat and engine to tackle the blaze.

Additionally, Rockaway Township’s Mount Hope Company 2 and Hibernia Company 1 were able to break free from the Jacobs Road incident to assist in extinguishing the fire. Morris County Hazmat also arrived on the scene, providing support by containing the fire with boom.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
