Commissioner Soloway joins volunteers for first veteran headstone cleaning of the year in Hunterdon County
WHITEHOUSE STATION, NJ (Hunterdon County) – On Saturday, May 3, more than 30 dedicated volunteers joined Commissioner Susan Soloway at the historic Readington Reformed Cemetery for a day of service honoring veterans.
At the first veteran headstone cleaning event of the year, volunteers worked diligently to clean headstones and replace flags at gravesites—ensuring that the sacrifices of these servicemen and women are properly acknowledged and remembered. Since the program’s inception, approximately 1,400 headstones have been cleaned across Hunterdon County.
Commissioner Soloway, who also serves as the co-liaison to Veterans Affairs, expressed her gratitude for the community’s strong turnout and praised the volunteers for their commitment.
“I want to thank all the volunteers that came out today to help kick off Hunterdon County’s first veteran headstone cleaning of the year,” said Soloway. “I look forward to these events each year as an important way of preserving history and showing respect for those who served our country. The dedication of these volunteers ensures that our veterans’ legacies remain honored and remembered.”
To continue this important work, Hunterdon County has scheduled three additional veteran headstone cleanings for 2025. Community members are encouraged to participate. For more information or to sign up for a headstone cleaning, click here.
“The annual headstone cleanings reflect the county’s ongoing commitment to supporting veterans and ensuring their contributions are never forgotten. With more cleanings scheduled, volunteers will have more opportunities to continue their efforts to honor and maintain these significant memorials,” Soloway added.
