ShopRite of Clinton debuts smart shopping carts with automatic coupons, faster checkout

HUNTERDON COUNTY, N.J. — Shoppers at ShopRite of Clinton can now try a new way to shop with the introduction of Caper Carts, a high-tech addition designed to save customers both time and money.

“The future of shopping starts today, come in to try one of our Caper Carts!” the store announced on its Facebook page.

The smart carts automatically clip coupons, highlight sale items in the store, and scan and weigh groceries as shoppers go, providing a running total of the basket. Customers can bag items as they shop, and when a payment method is linked to their Price Plus account, checkout is completed simply by entering a one-time code sent to their phone and walking out the priority exit near register 1.

“Like saving money? This cart automatically clips coupons for you and shows you the location of sale items in the store! Like saving time? The cart scans and weighs items as you shop, giving you a running total of your basket,” the store wrote.

The technology also allows customers to shop directly into reusable bags, making the process faster and more sustainable.

“Come in today and give it a try! Have questions? Our team is happy to help you!” the store said.
