Unlocked vehicles targeted in Independence Township burglaries, police say
INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — Authorities are warning residents to lock their vehicles following a series of burglaries across Warren County, including recent incidents in the Oak Hill at Independence development off Bilby Road in Independence Township.
Police say the burglaries involve suspects targeting unlocked vehicles and rummaging through them for valuables. In cases where keys were left inside, the vehicles themselves have been stolen.
“We have not found signs of forced entry into the burglarized vehicles, meaning they were open and free for the taking,” the Independence Township Police Department said in a statement.
Residents are urged to check their home security cameras and report any suspicious activity to police at 908-852-4440.
Police emphasized that locking vehicles and removing valuables are the simplest ways to prevent theft.
