Morris County to honor six veterans during annual Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 12

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — Morris County will honor six local veterans with Distinguished Military Service Medals during its annual Veterans Day ceremony Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m.

The ceremony, hosted by the Morris County Board of County Commissioners, will take place in the Administration and Records Building at 10 Court St. in Morristown. The event is open to the public and will also be livestreamed on the county’s Facebook page.

This year’s ceremony will recognize six veterans for their military service with the presentation of Morris County Distinguished Military Service Medals.

The veterans being honored are:

  • Calvin F. Smith of Montville
  • Darwin R. Martell of Wharton
  • Raymond Jones of Denville
  • Clifford Keezer of Boonton
  • Thomas Ryan of Pompton Plains in Pequannock Township
  • Robert M. Basinski of Boonton

In addition to recognizing the six veterans, the commissioners will honor the memories of two local patriots who served during the American Revolution. The tribute comes as Morris County concludes its 2026 activities commemorating the 250th anniversary of America’s independence.

The ceremony also coincides with Operation Green Light, a nationwide initiative encouraging counties, residents and businesses to display green lights as a visible symbol of support for military veterans.

The campaign traditionally runs from Nov. 4 through Veterans Day on Nov. 11. Morris County is extending its participation through Nov. 12 to coincide with the annual ceremony and is encouraging residents and business owners to keep their green lights illuminated through that date.

The initiative is intended to raise awareness of veterans and recognize their service and sacrifices.

Residents who cannot attend the ceremony in person can watch the livestream on the https://www.facebook.com/MorrisCountyNJ.

The annual ceremony provides an opportunity for county officials and community members to recognize local veterans and remember those who served the nation.
