Hunterdon County honors student entrepreneur for winning Vermont Pitch Challenge

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners recently recognized Matthew McPherson, a senior at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, for winning the 2025 Vermont Pitch Challenge, a national business competition for teens modeled after “Shark Tank.”

McPherson’s winning venture, Boxer Breeze, is an eco-friendly underwear brand that uses sustainable materials such as bamboo fiber and organic cotton in an effort to reduce textile waste and promote environmentally conscious consumer habits.

“This achievement is a testament to Matt’s hard work, creativity, and passion for responsible business practices,” said Commissioner Director John E. Lanza. “His success in the Vermont Pitch Challenge is not just a personal triumph, but an inspiration for young entrepreneurs in our community.”

As part of his award, McPherson received a full-tuition scholarship to the University of Vermont. Commissioners praised his innovation and commitment to sustainability, noting that his leadership reflects positively on both his peers and the broader Hunterdon County community.

“We are happy to celebrate his accomplishments and look forward to seeing his continued success,” Lanza added. “We have no doubt he will make a lasting impact on the business world.”
