Sherrill marks 100 days with launch of permitting dashboard pilot in New Jersey
TRENTON, N.J. — Gov. Mikie Sherrill on Thursday marked her 100th day in office by announcing the launch of a pilot program for a new online permitting dashboard aimed at improving transparency and efficiency across state agencies.
The pilot will allow select applicants to track permit progress across multiple departments in one place, part of a broader effort by the administration to streamline the state’s permitting process and reduce delays for businesses and residents.
The state will accept applications through May 21 for energy, commercial and multifamily housing projects that have recently submitted — or are preparing to submit — permit applications to agencies including the Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Transportation and Department of Community Affairs. Up to 10 projects will be randomly selected to participate in the pilot. More information and application details are available at Permits.NJ.gov.
“On Day One, I committed to cutting permitting times and delivering real accountability to make it easier and faster to build in New Jersey. Since then, we’ve laid the groundwork, and on our 100th day, we are proud to announce a call for submissions to the Permitting Dashboard pilot,” said Governor Sherrill. “This is a critical step toward a more streamlined system, saving New Jerseyans time and money and making it easier to build more housing, open businesses, and deliver critical infrastructure across our state. That will drive affordability, job creation, economic growth, and opportunities for New Jersey families.”
Officials said the dashboard, developed with the New Jersey Innovation Authority, will eventually allow users to track applications across agencies, view timelines, and receive updates on next steps and deadlines.
“Governor Sherrill signed Executive Order 5 on her first day in office to ensure that state government operates more effectively, more transparently, and more responsively for the people it serves. The Permitting Dashboard is essential to this mission – it will allow businesses and developers to see exactly where their permits stand and will help reduce delays and costs to improve affordability for New Jersey families. I’m excited to take this next step with the launch of applications for the Permitting Dashboard pilot and look forward to continuing to develop this tool to save time and money for New Jerseyans.” said Kellie Doucette, Chief Operating Officer.
State environmental officials said the new tool builds on other recent efforts to modernize permitting, including the launch of Operation FAST, which focuses on improving efficiency in reviewing energy projects.
“Throughout the first 100 days, DEP has hit the ground running on the Sherrill Administration’s mission to save New Jerseyans time and money by modernizing the permitting process, making it faster, more transparent, and more responsive to residents and businesses. We’ve launched Operation FAST for energy projects and held dozens of listening sessions with industry and nonprofit partners to identify and address key bottlenecks,” said DEP Commissioner Potosnak. “The permitting dashboard will build on that progress and will later help accelerate the development of critical energy infrastructure—speeding up power generation while supporting cleaner air, water, and a healthier environment for the long term. I’m proud to join my colleagues in marking this important milestone as we move forward with this work.”
The dashboard is expected to serve as a model for a statewide system that could expand in the future to include broader public access and additional project tracking capabilities.
The announcement is part of a wider push by the administration to improve government accountability, reduce regulatory delays and support economic growth across New Jersey.
