UPDATE: Tractor-trailer overturns, catches fire in crash on I-80 in Denville; two injured
DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Two drivers were injured after a tractor-trailer overturned across the median of Interstate 80 and was struck by a car early Monday morning in Denville Township, according to New Jersey State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at about 3:45 a.m. on I-80 east at milepost 40, according to State Police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.
A preliminary investigation found that the tractor-trailer was traveling east when the driver lost directional control, veered off the roadway to the left, struck the center median and overturned over the median into the westbound lanes, Lebron said.
A Hyundai sedan traveling west then struck the tractor-trailer. Following the impact, the tractor-trailer became engulfed in flames, according to state police.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital.
The dedicated volunteers of the Denville Volunteer Fire Department, along with other emergency responders, assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available.
