Rep. Tom Kean Jr. honors 16 local students heading to U.S. service academies

NEW JERSEY — U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-N.J.-07) hosted his annual Service Academy Send-Off Reception on May 28 at Raritan Valley Community College, recognizing 16 students from New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District who have received appointments to U.S. service academies as members of the Class of 2029.

Each of the students received a nomination from Kean’s office and was subsequently offered an appointment to a service academy. The event celebrated their achievements as they prepare to enter the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, or U.S. Air Force Academy.

“Congratulations to the 16 outstanding students from across our district who will be joining the ranks of cadets and midshipmen at our nation’s premier service academies,” Kean said. “These young men and women have answered the call to serve and will soon begin their journey as future leaders in our Armed Forces.”

Students receiving appointments include:

U.S. Military Academy at West Point: Turner Boyle of Somerville; Emma Ciocon of Bridgewater; Abraham Cunningham of Basking Ridge; Gabrielle Drucks of Budd Lake; John Farabee of Lebanon; Emma Ferraro of Westfield; Matthew Levanda of Branchburg; Kabir Srivastav of Westfield.

U.S. Naval Academy: Cormac Flanagan of Phillipsburg; Caedyn Ricciardi of Sparta; Ryan Swan of Basking Ridge.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy: Sullivan Dunn of Mendham.

U.S. Air Force Academy: Colin Belfield of Gillette; Bobby Cusimano of Whitehouse Station; Ryan Daly of Westfield; Advik Joshi of Bridgewater.

The reception also included an information session for high school students interested in future nominations, with representatives from all five U.S. service academies providing details on admissions processes. Kean’s office has opened its 2025 online application for service academy nominations, with a deadline of Oct. 17.
