Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office swears in new detective

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office has welcomed a new member to its investigative team.

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson announced that Detective John Laurencelle was sworn in on June 16, 2025, in a ceremony before Chief of Detectives Timothy J. Drew, family members and staff of the Prosecutor’s Office.

Before joining the office, Laurencelle served as a patrol sergeant and training officer for the Springfield Township (Union County) Police Department. He is a U.S. Army and New Jersey National Guard veteran who retired with distinction after 20 years of service.

Laurencelle also served on the U.S. Department of Defense SWAT team and was previously assigned to the DEA Newark Counter Drug Task Force. He is currently attending Thomas Edison State University.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
