Sussex County Community College receives $15K grant for Student Center Theater lighting upgrade

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — The Sussex County Community College (SCCC) Foundation has received a $15,000 grant from the Carolyn Jane Scott Charitable Trust to fund the installation of a new lighting system for the Student Center Theater, officials announced.

The Carolyn Jane Scott Charitable Trust supports nonprofit organizations across New Jersey. At SCCC, the performing arts are a central part of campus life, but the current lighting system in the theater has become outdated, affecting the safety, quality, and creative potential of performances.

With the grant, SCCC will install a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient lighting system. The upgrade will raise productions to a professional standard, enhance hands-on student training, expand artistic possibilities, and improve the overall theater experience for audiences.

“We are deeply grateful to the Carolyn Jane Scott Charitable Trust for their support,” said Dr. Cory Homer, SCCC president. “This investment not only enriches the educational experience for our students but also strengthens the cultural opportunities we can offer to our community.”

College officials said the improvements will also create stronger partnerships with local arts organizations, expand programming, and increase cultural engagement across Sussex County.

The project, they added, represents a long-term investment in the arts, student success, and the cultural vitality of the region.
