Woman charged after alleged inhalant use at Sussex County Walmart
RANKLIN BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Sussex woman was arrested after police said she was caught inhaling a toxic substance inside a Walmart bathroom on July 28.
According to Franklin Borough Police, Officer Jonathan Sienkiewicz responded to a report of a suspicious person and found Cara L. McManus, 54, actively inhaling pressurized electronics cleaner in order to cause impairment or intoxication.
Investigators said McManus had purchased the product in the store before proceeding to the bathroom to “huff” the material. She was taken into custody without incident.
McManus was charged with inhalation of toxic chemicals and possession of toxic chemicals, both disorderly persons offenses. She was also issued a borough ordinance summons for maintaining a nuisance on commercial property.
Police said McManus was released pending her appearance in Franklin Borough Municipal Court under the provisions of the New Jersey Bail Reform Act.
