Hunterdon County awards $500K in grants to boost local law enforcement
HUNTERDON COUNTY, N.J. — The Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners has approved the distribution of $500,000 in Local Law Enforcement Grant Program funding to 22 municipalities across the county. The grants, approved at the Sept. 16 board meeting, are aimed at strengthening public safety by providing local police departments with critical upgrades, technology, and equipment.
“Hunterdon County remains steadfast in its commitment to law enforcement and the safety of our residents,” said Commissioner Director John E. Lanza. “These grants represent an investment in the tools and technology our local police departments need to operate efficiently and effectively. We’re proud to stand with our municipal law enforcement partners in their mission to keep our communities safe and help to provide resources to keep Hunterdon County one of the safest places in the country.”
Grant applications were reviewed by a subcommittee made up of Hunterdon County Sheriff Fred Brown, Director of Public Safety Brayden Fahey, and County Counsel Katrina Doyle. Nearly $770,000 in requests were submitted.
The funding will support a range of projects, including speed and traffic enforcement equipment, body-worn and vehicle-mounted cameras, security system upgrades, communications technology, public safety facility renovations, and LiveScan fingerprinting systems integrated with county dispatch.
Fourteen municipalities participating in the LiveScan program will have $5,000 of their grant awards withheld, with the county paying the designated vendor directly to streamline coordination and procurement.
Funds will be disbursed once municipalities submit a fully executed payment voucher, in accordance with county financial procedures.
Director Lanza added, “These investments are not only about safety, but about partnership. Our municipal police departments are on the front lines every day. It is our duty at the County level to ensure they are well-equipped and supported. This grant opportunity is another example of the ‘New Era of Partnership’ with our municipalities.”
