Man fatally struck in hit-and-run on I-78 in Hunterdon County, state police say

UPDATE: Man charged in I-78 hit-and-run in Hunterdon County that killed Louisiana man, prosecutor says

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Louisiana man was killed Monday night in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County, according to the New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded around 7:55 p.m. Sept. 29 to a report of a crash on I-78 westbound at milepost 23.5 in Readington Township, State Police spokesman Trooper II Christopher Postorino said.

A preliminary investigation found that the victim, identified as 57-year-old Marshall Vizinat of Baton Rouge, La., was standing outside his tractor-trailer parked on the right shoulder when an unknown vehicle entered the shoulder and struck him, Postorino said.

The vehicle did not remain at the scene and continued westbound. Vizinat sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information was immediately available.
